In collaboration with the India International Centre (IIC), Dr (Mrs.) Malti Goel, President, Climate Change Research Institute (CCRI) conducted a three days Hybrid workshop on Hydrogen Production and Energy Uses: Towards a Net-Zero Strategy

ACBHPE – 2022 organized by the Climate Change Research Institute from 8th to 10th June 2022 in association with the India International Center turn out to be fantastic awareness and capacity building workshop for addressing climate change concerns. Hydrogen is emerging as an important source of energy, which has zero carbon content and is an emission free source, in contrast to fossil fuels, which are majorly responsible for global warming. In her Welcome address Dr Malti Goel, President Climate Change Research Institute and Former Adviser, Ministry of Science & Technology said that hydrogen can be a ‘healing balm’ to threats posed by climate change and is expected to play a decisive role in our future energy systems, according to the 6th IPCC report released recently. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri R.V. Shahi, Former Secretary, Ministry of Power, who highlighted the policy challenges in introducing hydrogen as a step towards clean energy transition. Padamshree Prof G.D. Yadav, National Science Chair, SERB delivered the Keynote Address. Distinguished speakers for the workshop, a mix of academia and industry shared their wisdom and experience in research & development, which was eye opener to many delegates. About fifteen delegates attended three days deliberations and listened to dignitaries with a keen interest to learn latest developments regarding hydrogen as fuel. “The workshop was very interesting and informative” said Mollika Banerjee, a research scholar from the CSIR’s Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, Dhanbad.
Post pandemic COVID-19 the workshop was conducted in hybrid mode to celebrate the World Environment Day 2022 amidst the celebration of 75th year of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava. Dr V.A. Mendhe and Dr P.D. Chavan from Dhanbad, Prof S.K. Singh from IIT Indore, Dr S. Nand from Fertilizers Association of India, Prof G. D. Sharma Ex Secretary UGC, Dr Bipin Gupta from NPL, Shri Gautam Sen Ex-ONGC, Prof S. Ahmad from Jamia, Shri V. S. Verma Ex-Member CERC, Ms Gauri Jauhar from IHS Markit, and Sh R Varshney from NTPC were among the distinguished speakers for the workshop. Virtual lectures were delivered by Prof P. C. Ghosh from IIT Mumbai and Dr Rakesh Kumar Ex-Director NEERI. Shri A.K. Jain, former Commissioner DDA gave Special Environment Day Guest Lecture in the evening on ‘Climate Resilient and Low Carbon India’. Shri K.N. Shrivastava, Director IIC Presided over the session. The workshop deliberations were shared live with the members of IIC, New Delhi.
